Own Your Future Colorado! Request your LTC Planning Kit.

In July Governor Bill Ritter launched Colorado's "Own Your Future" campaign to encourage state residents to begin planning for their long-term care needs. If  you have not already requested your LTC Planning guide, I encourage you to do so.

According to some sources, 60% of us will need long term care sometime during our lives. It is important for all of us to prepare for that day when we will need to help loved ones with care or we will need long term care for ourselves.

We may prepare financially for unexpected disasters by covering our homes, automobiles and health with insurance policies. But no other life event can be as devastating to an elderly person's lifestyle, finances and security as needing long term care.

According to the John Hancock Cost of Care Survey, conducted by care Scout in 2008, the average cost for care in Denver for a semi-private room in a nursing home is $70,810.00 per year. Home health care rates average $19.69 an hour and rates in an assisted living facility are $32,604.00 per year.

The guide is filled with information to help you understand the risks on long-term care and to help you start forming a plan for your future.
